New wine in old bottles...the new CIF

The new CIF does not appear to be anything new or indeed radical. Quite rightly, teaching, learning and assessment (new addition) are the central focus. The leadership team should be driving the quality improvement of teaching and learning whilst not losing sight of success. The bar has been raised. Satisfactory is being replaced with ‘needs improvement’, but hey, don’t outstanding teachers still need improvement! Oh, and no limiting grades. So what?

Well, what this means on the ground and at middle management level is quite simple. Most, if not all of what we do, should be dedicated towards improving the learner experience, building skills and not just knowledge, inspiring and not just delivering, innovating and not standing still. The emphasis is impact. What have you done since last year to improve the learner experience? How are the SAR, formal observations, drop-in observations, Teaching and Learning Reports, Learning Reviews, training being used to improve standards? It’s clearly not that easy as no providers have yet received a grade 1 for teaching and learning.

Traning and development will remain key...
